Who can apply for benefits at an Indianapolis WIC office?

The Indianapolis WIC office only accepts certain individuals’ applications. Across the country, Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program benefits are available to low-income families. However, households cannot receive benefits unless they meet the WIC income eligibility requirement. Additionally, applicants need to live in Indiana before their WIC clinic can grant them enrollment.

Beyond these criteria, there is an additional requirement you must meet to enroll at your WIC office. This relates to what type of applicant you are. For children to receive benefits, they must be younger than five years of age. However, if you are the main applicant in your claim, you must qualify as someone who is either:

  • Pregnant.
  • Breastfeeding an infant who is younger than one year of age.
  • Postpartum and had your baby no longer than six months ago.

How do I apply to the Indianapolis WIC program?

The first step you must take to apply for WIC in Indianapolis Indiana is scheduling your interview. You need to contact your closest WIC office and arrange your certification appointment. Then, you need to prepare for your meeting. Along with every member in your household who is applying for benefits, be sure to bring the following documents to your interview,:

  • Identification for you and your children. You can bring a driver’s license, marriage license, birth certificate or passport.
  • Verification of your address to prove you live in IN. To prove you are a state resident, you may bring official mail that was sent to your home address, a utility bill or proof that you rent or own your own home.
  • Immunization records for any of your children who are younger than two years of age.
  • Proof of earnings for your household. You need to bring any pay stubs you received in the past 30 days to your WIC office appointment. If you receive unemployment insurance, alimony or other supplemental income, you must also bring proof of these earnings.

Remember that if you receive certain public assistance benefits, you may already qualify for WIC in Indianapolis. If you receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or Medicaid, you already meet the program’s income eligibility requirement.

What benefits can I receive through WIC in Indianapolis?

The WIC locations in Indianapolis can offer you and your children many different benefits. For example, you can receive monetary support to help you afford groceries each month. If you need breastfeeding or general nutrition education, these resources are also available. Furthermore, your WIC office representatives can also direct you to supplemental benefits programs and services you can enroll in.
