How To Apply For WIC In Montana

Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, also know as WIC, is a program that is designed to help low-income pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, infants, and children 5 years old or younger who are at nutritional risk. The Montana WIC program accomplishes this by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information that can help provide healthy eating options including breastfeeding, and referrals to health care. How to Apply For Montana WIC
Persons wishing to apply for WIC need to contact the WIC agency in their area to set up an appointment.  Some local clinics have walk-in days and others serve area participants on certain days of the month.

Montana WIC Eligibility
Persons applying for WIC benefits must meet the following eligibility requirements:
1. Categorical: Must be a member of the population WIC serves:

  • Pregnant women
  • Breast feeding women
  • Postpartum women
  • Infants – up to age one
  • Children – up to age 5

2. Residential:  The household must reside in Montana.

3. Income:  The household income is at or below current WIC income guidelines or household meets adjunctive income eligibility definition.

  1. Income guidelines change yearly.  Contact the local WIC clinic or the State WIC program to find out current guidelines.
    1. 1 month of check stubs is required for proof of income
  2. Adjunctive income eligibility is determined by participation in one of the following programs:
    1. Medicaid
    2. SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)
    3. TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families)

4. Nutritional: Persons within the household applying for WIC have a nutritional risk

What to bring to your WIC appointment
Bring one document from each of the following lists:

Proof of Current Income

  • Paycheck stubs
  • Most recent income tax return
  • Award letter from unemployment
  • Award letter from Social Security Income
  • Adjunctively Eligible programs:
    • An award letter for the following programs: TANF, SNAP, HMK+, Medicaid, School Lunch Program (free & reduced price)

Proof of Your Current Address

  • Recent pay stub
  • Recent bank statement
  • Recent credit card statement
  • Utility bill
  • Rent or mortgage receipt
  • Driver’s license with current address
  • Voter registration with current address
  • Rent receipt or rental agreement
  • Mortgage receipt
  • County statement of current address

  • Driver’s license/State ID or passport
  • Birth certificate/Certificate of live birth
  • Green card
  • Social service card (HMK plus, SNAP, TANF)
  • Tribal ID card or Tribal Enrollment Letter
